During opening and closing of the valve, some of the fluid remains trapped in the valve cavity.
Due to thermal expansion, the trapped cavity liquid pressure may rise to a level that can damage the valve components hence the need for a provision to relieve the increase in pressure above the line pressure by using a Thermal Relief System.
