SAMSON has announced its decision to discontinue production of the FOCUS-1 smart meter valve by the end of the first quarter of 2026. The product was developed under FOCUS-ON, a joint venture established in 2019 between SAMSON and KROHNE to integrate measurement, control, and digital technologies into a single intelligent device. Along with the product discontinuation, the joint venture will be concluded in an orderly manner.
FOCUS-1 was conceived as an advanced solution combining precise measurement, control functionality, digital connectivity, and edge intelligence, designed for seamless integration into industrial systems. Throughout its development and market introduction, both partners approached the initiative with a start-up mindset, prioritizing agility, innovation, and entrepreneurial decision-making.
Following a comprehensive review of the technology roadmap and product strategy, SAMSON and KROHNE have jointly decided to discontinue the product at this stage. While FOCUS-1 demonstrated technical maturity and delivered positive results across several pilot applications, it did not reach the level of market adoption required for large-scale commercialization.
Broader geopolitical and economic factors have also influenced the decision, as shifting investment priorities and slower modernization cycles across industries have constrained demand for new automation technologies. Although applications in electrolyser systems, oil cooling, and wastewater treatment validated the industrial readiness of FOCUS-1, scaling these use cases proved challenging under current market conditions.
The experience and technical insights gained from the development and deployment of FOCUS-1 will directly inform the design of the next generation of smart meter valves. Future solutions will be aligned more closely with evolving customer needs and market requirements, building on the learnings from this program.
SAMSON will continue to support existing FOCUS-1 installations for a defined period. Customers impacted by the discontinuation will be contacted individually to coordinate suitable solutions and ensure continuity of operations.
