Velan supports Fuel Production at Preem’s Lysekil Refinery

Velan recently shipped a major valve package for the Hydrothermal Cleanup Unit (HCU) project at Preem’s Lysekil refinery in Sweden, one of Northern Europe’s most significant refinery investments. The project supports Preem’s transition from a conventional fossil fuel producer to a manufacturer of renewable diesel (HVO100) and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using waste-based feedstocks such as used cooking oil and animal fats.
The order included more than 1,000 valves across multiple product lines, including Gates, Globes and Checks in pressure seal, Small forged and Cast Steel designs, Wafer Checks and TOV’s ,in a wide range of carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, and nickel alloy materials.
Velan’s valves will support Preem’s Hydrothermal Cleanup (HCU) Pretreat process using water, heat, pressure and turbulent flow to clean the renewable feedstock, our valves will also be installed on steam applications, isolation, and utility applications on the facility.
Velan was selected based on a longstanding relationship with Preem and a proven performance record at the site spanning more than 25 years. Beyond the scale and diversity of the valve package, the project was characterized by demanding delivery requirements and close customer oversight throughout production. By successfully delivering more than 1,000 valves on schedule while maintaining consistent communication and progress visibility, Velan reinforced its reputation for severe-service expertise, product quality, and dependable execution on critical refining applications.
