Kuwait Approves Public Tender for New Sour Gas Export Pipeline

Kuwait’s state oil operator has received clearance to launch a public tender for a new sour gas pipeline, advancing the nation’s infrastructure expansion to support long-term production targets.
The Central Agency for Public Tenders approved a request from state-owned Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to issue the tender, Arabic-language daily Al-Rai reported, citing informed sources as relayed by Zawya Projects.
The project involves constructing a 24-inch sour gas export pipeline stretching from Station 171-BS through TP-1 to the Intermediate Gas Separator.
Additional operational details, including contract value, bidding deadlines, and qualified bidders, have not yet been disclosed, and official statements from KOC and the tenders agency were not immediately available.
The upcoming pipeline tender follows recent significant investments in Kuwait’s midstream oil and gas infrastructure. Additionally, the country is exploring new pipeline routes with Arab neighbours to bypass the volatile Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier approval from the central agency covered four separate KOC contracts for crude oil pipelines and related facility works, valued at a combined 447.31 million Kuwaiti dinars ($1.5 billion).
In a related KOC crude pipeline tender featuring six bidding groups, Alghanim International General Trading & Contracting submitted a low bid of 419 million dinars ($1.4 billion), according to agency figures reported by MEED.
These pipeline developments fit into a broader capital expenditure drive by KOC’s parent entity, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC).
KPC launched a $65 billion investment program designed to elevate total oil production capacity to 4 million barrels per day by 2035.
As part of its funding strategy for this expansion, KPC has explored monetization strategies, including leasing portions of its extensive pipeline network to outside investors.
The new sour gas line is expected to enhance Kuwait’s capacity to process and transport high-sulfur natural gas, supporting domestic energy needs and expanding processing throughput across key operational hubs.
