VERSA Products Co., Inc., a global leader in engineering and manufacturing solenoid, pilot, and manual actuated directional control valves and related components, has introduced its new 6-Moly Super Austenitic Stainless Steel Check and Relief Valves for use in extreme and corrosive industrial environments.
The new valves are manufactured from 6Mo stainless steel (UNS S31254), a minimum 6% molybdenum super-austenitic stainless steel that offers enhanced corrosion resistance in applications involving chlorides and other aggressive media. This addition provides customers with another material option to meet the specific requirements of their operating environments, particularly in upstream oil and gas applications.
Hydrogen sulfide and other corrosive compounds found in sour gas production can attack valve materials, increasing the risk of corrosion, sulfide stress cracking, and premature failure. Material selection is especially important in these applications, where valve performance can directly affect equipment operation and maintenance.
While 316L stainless steel remains a reliable, widely used material for many industrial applications, 6Mo stainless steel offers added corrosion resistance for more demanding conditions.
Containing approximately 6% molybdenum, along with elevated levels of chromium and nitrogen, 6Mo stainless steel provides enhanced resistance to chloride-induced corrosion, including pitting and crevice corrosion.
For upstream oil and gas operators handling sour gas, 6Mo offers another option when standard stainless steel does not provide sufficient corrosion protection. Operators must evaluate its use in hydrogen sulfide service against operating conditions and applicable material specifications.
“Expanding our product offering with 6Mo stainless steel allows us to provide customers with additional solutions for the most challenging operating environments,” said Rob Lindquist, Director of Global Sales at VERSA Products Company, Inc. “By offering multiple material options, we can better support the diverse application requirements of our customers while continuing to deliver the quality and performance they expect from VERSA and uphold our commitment to Real World Reliability.”
