The government of Uzbekistan will soon begin working to upgrade the production and efficiency of various hydropower plants, according to reports from the country’s state-run news agency and to WaterWorld.
The projects Details were not disclosed, but the government has said its plan currently extends to 19 plants, with a goal of increasing the country’s cumulative hydroelectric output by about 119 MW within 2020.
The plan would allow generators to save about 250 million cubic meters of natural gas per year, according to the Uzbekistani government, while also increasing the storage capacity of reservoirs For agricolture.
Data from utility Uzbkenergo shows that just about 11% of the country’s total power generation currently comes from hydroelectric sources, though the state-owned company has been keen on further developing its hydro sector in recent years.
