The Weir Group has integrated its Delta Industrial valves manufacturing operations into its facility in St. Louis. Before the integration, the St. Louis facility solely manufactured Lewis® pumps and valves, an industry leader in sulphuric acid industries, for more than 126 years. The strategic decision was made to relocate the manufacturing of Delta Industrial™ valves to help accelerate the growth of both brands, increase production and streamline processes to ensure all valves are manufactured to the highest of standards.
Integrating two large brands and multiple product lines is no easy task, and during the transition the Weir Group built up a back log of orders which it had to address. The Weir team worked tirelessly to overcome these challenges, and it are now pleased to announce that it has cleared the backlog and has stringent processes in place to ensure it continues to deliver to customers around the world on time, without sacrificing on quality.
In order to achieve this, the Weir Group has optimised the supply chain to deliver what customers want, when they want it. It did this by increasing shifts to three per day and hired more staff to ensure they could create its products in a timely manner. In addition, it addressed supplier constraints, expanded their manufacturing space by 5,000 square feet, and increased their warehouse space by 15,000 square feet.
Along with expanding manufacturing operations, the Weir Group added a team of 24 valve specialists around the globe. The team is made up of valve experts who are strategically located nearby customers’ sites and is deeply embedded in customers’ operations to better understand their challenges and help them meet their objectives. From St. Louis facility, Weir Group now has the ability to utilise customer insights to further develop materials technology and expand the product line.
