EDF Energy greenlights Rotork IQ3 valve actuators for nuclear applications

Following an in-depth Modest Integrity Assessment (MIG), EDF Energy has approved Rotork IQ3 non-intrusive intelligent valve actuators for balance of plant applications within its nuclear power stations.
Balance of plant areas typically include the turbine hall, water treatment and cooling systems, and the valves and dampers involved in these area. The approval comes after the introduction of IR setting-up of the actuator, that avoids the need to remove electrical covers for commissioning once the acturator is site wired, so the internal components are completely protected from the environment, helping the Rotork’s double-sealed enclosure design that is typically used.
