Pump and valve manufacturer KSB has secured the largest order in its history, valued at more than €150 million, for the supply of eight main reactor coolant pumps to a nuclear power plant project in Eastern Europe.
The contract will see KSB’s Energy division manufacture and deliver the pumps over the coming years. Each unit will weigh more than 100 tonnes and feature a power rating of 8 MW. Production will take place at the company’s main plant in Frankenthal, Germany.
The scope includes not only the supply of the pumps but also comprehensive testing to ensure safe and reliable operation within the primary circuit of the nuclear facility. The project marks a significant milestone for KSB as it strengthens its position in the global power plant pump market.
As a market leader in this segment, KSB continues to pursue a growth strategy centred on its engineering expertise and project execution capabilities. The latest contract reflects increasing global investment in energy infrastructure, particularly in nuclear power as countries seek low-carbon generation and enhanced energy security.
“The global demand for energy is growing, resulting in a sustained demand for new power plants,” says Dr Stephan Timmermann, CEO of KSB. “This order underlines the project partner’s trust in our expertise and experience. We are delighted to be supplying these technically sophisticated large pumps from our Energy plant in Frankenthal over the course of the next few years.”
Main reactor coolant pumps play a critical role in nuclear plants by ensuring continuous circulation of coolant through the reactor core, enabling heat transfer for electricity generation.
