China has announced a $78 bln (50billions yuan) investment for building 110 nuclear power plants by 2030; this way, China will overtake United States in domestic nuclear energy generation complexes, and, by 2020, its electric generation capacity will triple the values of 2014. There are currently 23 nuclear power generation centers in China, and other 27 are under constructions, one third of the worldwide projects. Zhou Dadi, vice director of the China Energy Research Society said that China generates only about 2 per cent of its total electricity from nuclear power plants, while the average global proportion is 14 per cent, adding that China is in a great position to develop its nuclear projects.
China is also dealing with safety issues, though, He Zuoxiu, a theoretical physicist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told that China has yet to implement enough measures to develop safety control technology and facilities for nuclear power plants, and that the government should focus on other clean energy resources, instead of building such a great number of complexes.
China is also marketing its new 1100-MW-plant nuclear technology to Pakistan and Argentina.
