DeepOcean wins Equinor contract for subsea work on Snorre gas project

Norwegian ocean services player DeepOcean has secured a contract from Equinor for subsea construction and installation work on the Snorre export and import gas (SNEIG) project, with offshore execution set for 2026.

The SNEIG development forms part of Equinor’s wider Snorre expansion project, designed to extend the production life of the Snorre oil and gas field in the Tampen area of the North Sea beyond 2040. The field, located in water depths of 300 to 350 m, has been producing since 1992.

DeepOcean’s scope includes installation of a subsea safety isolation valve, umbilical, and pipeline tie-in using connectors and tooling from the pipeline repair and subsea intervention (PRSI) pool. The company will also carry out preparatory subsea work such as isolation pig tracking, coating removal, cutting, and seabed crossings for the new umbilical, followed by mechanical completion and commissioning.

Engineering, procurement and project management will be handled from DeepOcean’s office in Haugesund, while offshore operations will be performed using one of its chartered subsea construction vessels during the 2026 summer campaign.

“This is a complex subsea project that underlines Equinor’s dedication to responsible resource utilisation through life-of-field extensions,” said Olaf Hansen, managing director of DeepOcean’s European operations, adding: “With our experienced team and specialised tooling, we are confident of safe and successful execution in close cooperation with Equinor.”
