Eni confirms it has been awarded the Sapukala block, with a 100 per cent stake, in the Kutei Basin, Indonesia, as part of the first round of Indonesian oil tenders in 2026. The award, according to a statement, follows the completion of a joint study with a leading Indonesian academic institution, as required by local regulations, and participation in the direct bidding phase.
The Sapukala offshore block covers a large area in the deep waters (at depths ranging from 1,000 to 2,500 m) of the Kutei Basin in East Kalimantan. The area is adjacent to blocks already operated by Eni or in which the company holds a stake, and is situated close to the future North Hub development, currently managed by Searah (Eni 50%, Petronas 50%), which comprises the Geng North, Gehem, Gula and Geliga gas and condensate fields (totalling over 14 Tcf of gas in place and 800 Mbbls of oil). Based on the study carried out, the area is considered highly promising.
