The last 10th March marked a special day in the history of Special Quality Alloys (SQA). The family-owned company, based in the heart of the steel working area of Sheffield excitedly opened their doors to a Royal visitor.
SQA were proud to welcome HRH The Princess Royal to their site during her visit to the Steel City.
During the afternoon Her Royal Highness met and chatted with some of the approx. 100 employees at Special Quality Alloys before being given a tour which included their extensive forging operations. The Princess was able to see the company’s 70CWT open-die forging hammer (one of 6 open-die hammers on site) in action in addition to witnessing a demonstration of their state-of-the-art ring mill, all part of the £7M investment made over the last 3 years.
Following a site tour Her Royal Highness unveiled a plaque to commemorate the visit in front of the assembled SQA employees.
The Royal visit follows a successful year for the company, which also saw them receive the UK’s highest accolade for business excellence, The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of International Trade.
SQA Managing Director, Benn Beardshaw said ‘It was a real privilege to welcome HRH The Princess Royal to SQA today and to have the opportunity to showcase our manufacturing expertise. It is a day I am sure we will all remember for a long time to come’.
