The bids are open for desalination project in Oman

Accoirding to WaterWorld magazine, more than ten international consortiums have entered the race to compete for the latest desalination expansion at the Al Ghubrah site in Oman.
The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company has received 11 statements of qualifications from bidders to provide an additional 300,000 m3/day of desalination capacity to the site.
The proposed companies and consortia are ACWA Power; a consortium formed by Cobra Instalaciones Y servicio S.A, FCC Aqualia, S.A., Majis Industrial Service SAOC; International Power; GS Inima Environment S.A; Marubeni Corporation, a secon consortium made of Abengoa, Shumookh Investment and Services SAOC, Engineering Procurement & Project Management and Al Bashair Investment Co. LLC; Sembcorp Utilities; Sojitz Corporation; SUEZ International, a third group with Sumitomo Corporation and Malakoff International Limited UTICO FZC; and finally IDB Infrastructure Fund II B.S.C and United Water Limited.
OPWP said the evaluation of the SoQs is currently underway.
The site expansion will add to the existing 191,000 m3/day Al Ghubra desalination plant, which passed performance testing and started commercial operation in early 2016. This was developed as an EPC project by a consortium including WABAG, Cadagua and Galfar.
Oman is aiming to increase its overall desalinated water capacity under contract to OPWP to 1.3 million m3/day by 2020.
This is part of a seven year statement and a wider plan to roll out five further desalination plants across the country.
