AUMA actuation technology has been successfully commissioned at the Bahrain Ministry of Works’ Muharraq Sewage Treatment Plant, over 40 AUMA electric actuators are successfully operating at the scheme, which has a treatment capacity of 100,000 m3/day. Built on reclaimed land, under the management of the Muharraq STP company, the project is part of Bahrain’s first build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) scheme.
A modular design for easy on-site adaptation was a key reason for the selection of AUMA’s SA .2 actuators with AM controls. The plant is designed to have a lifespan of 25 years and has provision for future expansion to treat 160,000 m3/day. Local support for the installation was provided by AUMA Actuators Middle East W.L.L., part of AUMA’s global network of subsidiary companies.
The sewage treatment agreement for privatisation of the project was awarded in February 2011. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in July 1012. The scheme was completed in June 2014 and AUMA actuators have proven their effective operation, providing the required valve control functionality since that date.
