As part of the arrangement, Pöyry’s will review the contractor’s engineering and supervise construction, erection and commissioning.
In April SWCC awarded Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction the $422 million contract to build the 400,000 m3/day reverse osmosis desalination facility.
Originally the development, in the pipeline for several years, was planned for Jeddah city but was then changed to Shoaiba, a costal area 80 kilometres south.
The value of the order was not disclosed and will fall within the Energy Business Group order stock in H2/2017. Having worked with SWCC for 30 years, Pöyry also provides services to the Ras Al Khair desalination development.
As well as Shoaiba 4, a further development in the Rabigh area, north of Jeddah, could see a 600,000 m3/day membrane-based desalination plant developed in the country.
