Framatome and EDF UK have renewed their Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) for the Sizewell B nuclear power plant, securing maintenance and outage support for the facility through to 2040.
The 15-year agreement will support Sizewell B’s long-term operation strategy, with Framatome delivering a comprehensive range of maintenance and planned outage services. The companies said the renewed partnership reinforces their commitment to safe, reliable electricity production and the UK’s Net Zero 2050 ambitions.
Framatome has provided maintenance services at Sizewell B since 2008, developing extensive knowledge of the plant and a long-standing relationship with EDF UK’s station teams.
Under the renewed agreement, the company will provide services covering reactor and steam generator maintenance, reactor coolant pumps and valves, non-destructive examinations, supply chain coordination and the management of outage personnel.
The work will draw on Framatome’s pressurised water reactor (PWR) expertise and its teams in the UK, supported by resources in France, Germany and the US. The agreement also includes a focus on developing highly skilled UK-based outage teams.
“The renewal of our Long-Term Service Agreement with Framatome is built on mutual trust and a shared commitment to Sizewell B’s ambitions to excel in nuclear operation for the next decades. Sizewell B is hugely important for UK nuclear operations and for supporting our Net Zero ambitions as we prepare for the forthcoming EPR nuclear reactors under construction at Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C”, said John Munro, Managing Director of EDF UK’s Nuclear Operations.
Guirec Maugat, Senior Executive Vice President, Installed Base at Framatome, said: “We are proud to confirm our partnership with EDF UK for Sizewell B, reinforcing our long-term vision for nuclear excellence in the UK. We will continue to support the plant operations by delivering flawless outages with high-level safety and quality expectations.”
He added: “We are committed to create, train and develop highly skilled UK based outage expert teams, combining local talents with Framatome’s international expertise, to support UK’s nuclear fleet for decades to come.”
Sizewell B is the UK’s only pressurised water reactor, with an installed capacity of 1,198 MW. Commissioned in 1995, it has generated more than 270 TWh of low-carbon electricity.
